Thank you for your ongoing hard work and leadership in Congress to address the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis, including the CARES Act. The CARES act has been critical for immediate economic relief during these unprecedented times.
Though the CARES Act provides vital support to small businesses and certain non-profits, it excludes organizations such as chambers of commerce, economic development, and other professional associations. I write to urge your support in including additional financial resources for 501(c)6 organizations in the next phase of coronavirus legislation.
Membership organizations need emergency relief funds for their economic survival- and their members now, more than ever, rely on their local associations for critical support during these unprecedented times. 501(c)6 organizations provide vital leadership and drive economic opportunity for our local communities.
I ask that future legislation include 501(c)6 organizations in the Paycheck Protection Program and other financial relief efforts. Local chambers of commerce provide connections and information to area businesses. Our local travel and tourism industry drives economic prosperity and enhances the quality of life. These are just a few examples of organizations that have been severely impacted by the crisis that would benefit from legislative assistance and consideration in future congressional efforts.
I greatly appreciate the work that has gone into passing measures vital in protecting the health and safety of our local communities and the economy. Financial assistance allows 501(c)6 non-profit organizations to support and build-up our communities for long term growth and prosperity. Thank you for your continued support and consideration during these unprecedented times.
